Position: Anesthesiologist – Cardiothoracic Experience Preferred
Location: Minneapolis VA Health Care System, One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417
Position Type: Contract | Long-Term, Full-Time (Base Year + Four Option Years)
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $700,000/year
Earning Potential: Up to $1,100,000 annually (negotiable based on experience, call participation, and coverage scope)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Excluding Federal Holidays)
Estimated Hours: 80 hours every two weeks
Rotating On-Call Schedule: Collaboratively confirmed
Lunch Break: 30-minute unpaid

Key Responsibilities
Administer anesthesia and monitor patients during surgical procedures
Develop and implement anesthesia care plans with surgical teams
Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care
Evaluate patient histories and perform physical assessments for anesthesia protocols
Maintain accurate patient records following VA policies
Respond confidently to anesthesia-related emergencies
Contribute to educational programs and anesthesia practice improvements
Follow safety standards, infection control protocols, and federal regulations
Note: Cardiac device implantation (pacemakers, LVADs, defibrillators) may be involved but is not the primary responsibility.
Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. degree
Board Certified in Anesthesiology
Cardiothoracic anesthesia experience preferred
Active, unrestricted U.S. medical license (any state)
Proven clinical experience in hospital or surgical settings
Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Compassionate, patient-centered care in a high-demand environment
Knowledge of VA policies and federal regulations desirable
