This year LocumTenens.com celebrates its 30th anniversary. With three decades of experience connecting healthcare providers with the facilities where they are needed most, LocumTenens.com has grown from five people with a vision to improve the care delivery experience into one of the most influential and trusted names in the industry.

As we reflect on this milestone, we thought it would be fun to celebrate by sharing facts about our company. These 30 facts showcase our business growth and milestones, our community impact and the achievements of our people. 

Milestones in company history

Since its establishment in 1995, LocumTenens.com has grown into a leader in healthcare staffing, following a clear path of innovation and growth.
 
1. Started in 1995 with five associates, the company now has more than 800 associates.

2. We launched the healthcare industry’s largest job board in 1999, connecting healthcare facilities nationwide with qualified clinicians in order to staff medical teams.

3. Originally only staffing clinicians for psychiatry/psychology, anesthesia and surgery, we now place healthcare providers in more than 60 specialties nationwide, drawing from a clinician pool of nearly 700,000 physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs). This equates to covering approximately 1 million shifts annually.

4. Shane Jackson was named president of LocumTenens.com in 2008, shaping the future of the company and its impact on the industry. 

5. In 2011, we launched the in-house credentialing verification organization (CVO) to streamline the credentialing process for clinicians placed in new assignments.

6. Chris Franklin was named president of LocumTenens.com in 2016, focusing on innovation and flexible workforce solutions backed by research.


 
7. The Jackson Healthcare campus where LocumTenens.com is headquartered has a 267,000 square foot, 8-story office building and a 39,000 square foot amenities building modeled after the Roman Coliseum, which includes an onsite restaurant and a 3-floor gym with indoor pool. 

8. In 2024, we integrated Axuall’s automated credentialing, speeding up and streamlining the time it takes for qualified clinicians to get credentialed and placed.

With a growing nationwide presence and a commitment to addressing critical needs within the industry, LocumTenens.com’s impact is felt across the U.S. healthcare industry by providers, clients and patients alike.

9. With a presence in more than 90% of the nation’s top hospitals, we have placed more clinicians across the country than anyone else, resulting in more patients seen and more care delivered.

10. We have 399 members on our Inclusion Advisory Council (IAC), which launched in 2020 to champion diversity and inclusion within the organization. 

11. Thanks to diligently building an extensive network of skilled healthcare providers, LocumTenens.com has contributed 876,197 clinician work days into everyday care delivery across virtually all medical specialties over the last two years alone, ensuring that facilities across the U.S. continue to see patients. That includes:

  • 307,426 work days in psychiatry roles.
  • 260,401 work days in anesthesia roles.
  • 65,200 work days in hospital medicine roles.
  • 57,515 work days in primary care roles.
  • 51,768 work days in surgery hospital roles.

12. Our approach to flexible healthcare staffing has the power to address some of the nation’s most pressing medical issues, such as the U.S. maternal care deserts crisis. It is estimated that the OB-GYN and APPs placed by LocumTenens.com deliver approximately 5,000 babies per year.

13. LocumTenens.com operates numerous solutions to address niche healthcare staffing needs: Kimedics workforce management software, Venn Workforce Optimization, AdvancedPractice.comCRNAjobs.comMental Health Work and Inlightened.

14. We’ve built more than 2,000 telehealth programs for healthcare clients. Our on-staff practicing clinicians are experts at designing and implementing remote care strategies from the ground up for organizations of all sizes.

15. Our Chief Medical Resource Officer, Dr. Miechia Esco, MD, PhD, MBA, RPVI, FACS, was recognized as the ASA National Staffing Employee of the Year in 2023. She often speaks about how locums work enables her to use her skills where they are needed most.

16. LocumTenens.com supported more than 120 nonprofits in 2024, with a focus on at-risk youth and families, healthcare, foster and orphan children, education and disaster relief. Associates are highly involved in organized volunteer work and charitable donation efforts through our At Your Service monthly volunteer program. 

17. A team of LocumTenens.com volunteers accompanies practicing surgeons on an annual “medical brigade” to Catacamas, Honduras in partnership with Predisan Ministries. This group delivers much needed medical care and procedures to a community that lacks the infrastructure and stability to provide for patients.

18. The average tenure at the company is 4.7 years, reflecting a culture of retention and employee satisfaction. 

19. Many associates have been at the company for the long haul:

  • 96 associates have worked here for 10+ years.
  • 44 associates have worked here for 15+ years.
  • 12 associates have worked here for 20+ years.

20. Ali Westemeier and Livy McLoughlin were both recognized as Recruiter of the Year by LocumLife Magazine twice.

Internal personal development goals are rigorously tracked, and our internal career growth and learning platforms are accessible to all associates. Continuous learning is valued, encouraged and celebrated together.

LocumTenens.com offers health initiatives available to all associates in-office, including an on-site gym (the Coliseum), exercise classes, body composition testing and annual bonuses for healthy lifestyle accomplishments based on a personalized health plan. The Coliseum services approximately 600 members and offers massage and nail services, pool/sauna/steam, laundry and locker services, and group fitness classes in HIIT, yoga/pilates, cycling, and strength training formats. 

23. We celebrate together. Each year, Jackson Healthcare transforms lobby spaces and conference rooms into a sprawling Thanksgiving banquet, inviting all associates to come together for feasting and fellowship. Traditional holiday dishes are served to all, and we hold a highly competitive dessert contest for the gifted chefs on the team.

29. We are providing healthcare clients with the insights they need for success in 2025, such as research into the differences between rural and metro area healthcare challenges.

30. We’re leading the charge in advocacy for advanced practice providers with APP-focused content and a job board that helps APPs find their next assignment. Additionally, we perform in-person advocate work on Capitol Hill, supporting policies that help empower APPs to deliver quality care.
