Expanding access to behavioral health: meeting growing demand with comprehensive services

For over twenty-five years, LocumTenens.com’s Behavioral Health division has partnered with behavioral health facilities nationwide to meet patient needs and provide access to trusted psychiatric clinicians. To fully meet facilities’ requirements, LocumTenens.com has once again expanded our service line to include Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) and Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs). These are in addition to our previous service lines, which include Psychologists, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs).

The national average wait time for behavioral health services is 48 days, indicating a large increase in demand. Additionally, employment in mental health-related occupations is projected to grow by 18% from 2022 to 2032. With recruiting teams for each subspecialty provider group, our services and team are dedicated to growing to best meet facility needs.

Psychiatry: (MD/DOs and NPs)

The United States has been facing a pressing healthcare provider shortage, leaving facilities searching for reliable and speedy staffing solutions. Driven by an increasing emphasis on mental health care, the specialty has received a massive increase in demand. NPs have been pivotal in ensuring continued access to reliable care. According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, there are over 385,000 licensed NPs in the United States, with around 23,000 of them specializing in psychiatry. LocumTenens.com currently has psychiatrists placed in over 3,500 unique facilities across the country.

Able to work cohesively with existing MDs and resulting in cost-effective, flexible solutions to coverage, the demand for Psychiatric NPs continues to rise. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), forecasts a 62% increase in psych NPs from 2017 to 2030.

Psychologists (PsyD, PhD)

Job opportunities for psychology are on the rise globally and have increased exponentially as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a projection of 11,000 new jobs from 2018 to 2028. By specializing in various areas of psychology and the vital implementation of telemedicine, psychologists can treat a variety of patients across the country. According to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of clinician psychologists is expected to grow 10% by 2031.

Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs)

When considering options in the realm of mental health, it's important to note that the demand for LCSWs has grown rapidly. Undergoing extensive training in psychotherapy and counseling, social and cultural factors take high priority in their treatments. Between 2018 and 2028, the number of LCSWs is forecasted to grow by 11%, along with the creation of over 81,000 new jobs. Being able to accomplish a broad spectrum of care, LCSWs are pivotal to exceptional patient care and facility staffing.

Behavioral Health Therapists (LPCs, LMFTs)

Employment of marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) is projected to grow 16 percent, with Licensed professional counselors (LPCs) to grow 19 percent from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations. An average of 7,500 openings for LMFTs and 48,900 for LPCs are projected each year over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from those leaving the field or by those retiring.

Backed by our highly skilled team, LocumTenens.com offers comprehensive wrap-around behavioral health services with various subspecialties and resources.
