Trends such as a shrinking workforce and an increase in sub-specialization have positioned cardiologists in a place of continued demand, with strong career prospects as a populace with increasing life expectancy is likely to translate increased need for cardiology care. Of the respondents who took our survey, most cardiologists (68%) are among the baby boomer generation (born between 1946 and 1964), tend to work as full-time employees (74%), and have been in their practice for a long time (74% spent 21+ years in practice).
