Counselor, Forensic Liaison

Job description

Reporting to the Supervisor, Clinical the Counselor, the Forensic Liaison will work with the criminal justice system to identify mental health and AoD service needs of inmates. You will assist inmates in accessing outpatient mental health and AoD services ultimately serving as a reliable and professional company liaison between the criminal justice system and Signature Health.

HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED

Receive and facilitate information between the criminal justice system related to referrals, linkage to programs, and services.
Maintain client charting in accordance with Medicaid, JCAHO, ODADAS, ODMH, CARF and professional standards.
Initiate action and follow up by contacting clients who are incarcerated while maintaining communication with court and jail staff as needed.
Communicate with all Signature Health staff regarding relevant challenges and needs for those involved with the criminal justice system.
Complete monthly statistical report to the ADAMHS Board and the jail.
Maintain detailed, timely written records of all services provided by the company to incarcerated patients.
Participate and engage in monthly MHDD meetings in order to review and provide updates about Signature Health clients.
Provide brief assessments and intake related functions for linkage of new referrals.
Communicate to jail staff with details regarding current behavioral health care services; make recommendations for treatment, based on needs and available resources; arrange for Aftercare/Linkage; secures offenders’ consent for release of information.
Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
Maintain all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.
May be required to perform telehealth services as determined by Signature Health.
Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.
Responsible for and completes all productivity/documentation requirements.
Participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.
Demonstrate appropriate attendance and punctuality in adherence with Signature Health policies.
Other duties as assigned.


Requirements
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, social work or related field required.
Valid unencumbered LSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC, LIMFT or MFT License in the state of Ohio required.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred.
1-2+ years assessment skill experience preferred.
Knowledge of and work experience within Criminal Justice and behavioral health fields.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.
While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties
