Gastroenterology Locums – Level I Trauma Center | ERCP/EUS | 7-Day Blocks | Downtown Ohio
Job description
Join a high-performing GI service at a Level I trauma center in downtown Columbus, Ohio, providing advanced endoscopic care for a busy tertiary hospital. This locums role is designed for Gastroenterologists who love procedural volume, complex pathology, and block scheduling that still supports work–life balance.
Key Features:
• Location: Downtown Columbus, Ohio – walkable city with thriving food, arts, and sports scenes
• Hospital: 400+ bed tertiary referral center and teaching hospital with full subspecialty backup
• Setting: Hospital-based GI coverage for a Level I trauma center
Schedule & Work–Life Balance:
• Ideal for a GI who likes to work intensely, then truly be off
• Preferred: full-time ongoing coverage
• Flexible: will consider physicians who can provide at least 7 consecutive days per month
• Daytime: 7:00a–3:00p, Monday–Friday
• Evenings/nights: beeper call
• Weekends: 24-hour beeper call
• Adult-only patient population
• Epic EMR
Clinical Scope:
• Advanced therapeutic endoscopy with strong emphasis on:
o ERCP (high recent case volume required)
o Esophageal/duodenal/luminal stent placements
• Broad general GI:
o Diagnostic & therapeutic EGD
o Colonoscopy with polypectomy
o APC, dilation, sigmoidoscopy
o PEG placement and management
o Nonvariceal hemostasis (upper and lower GI)
o GI motility and 24-hour pH studies
• Work alongside a multidisciplinary team in a high-acuity environment
Candidate Profile:
• Board-certified or truly board-eligible Gastroenterologist
• Comfortable as the go-to GI resource in a Level I trauma setting
• Enjoys a procedurally heavy caseload and complex pathology
• Values Epic EMR, strong system infrastructure, and teaching environment
• Thrives with block work and appreciates having an urban, livable city at their doorstep
Requirements:
• Active or attainable Ohio medical license (IMLC welcome; willing to license for strong candidates)
• DEA and ACLS
• Documented experience:
o ERCP (150+ cases in the past 2 years)
o Stent placement and advanced endoscopic interventions
• Minimum of 1 year post-training experience
• Able to complete required moderate sedation education and post-test
Start & Duration:
• Start: November 2025
• Duration: 3+ months with option to extend; ongoing need for consistent block coverage
