Historical Salary Data

How does this year's salary for hospitalists compare to other years?

Until 2022, the average pay for hospitalists had been decreasing since 2017, which experts say is due to more physicians choosing to work in this specialty, leading to an overly saturated market. However, COVID-19 has left a clear mark on the hospital medicine, with the average salary rebounding prominently since the start of the pandemic in the U.S.

Many hospitalists helped out in COVID hot spots throughout the U.S. when cases were surging, and the segment of hospitalists working locum tenens has stayed strong at 30% (29% in 2020).
