POLICE CO-RESPONSE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SPECIALIST
Under the general supervision of the Director of Grants and Community Engagement, The Police Based Co-Response Behavioral Health Specialist will provide early intervention assessments, referrals and clinical case management services to persons in the community that are identified by assigned police departments (Detroit Police Department, Southgate Police Department, Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe, etc) as possibly having mental health issues.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Accompanies law enforcement officers on mental health related calls in the community.
• Provides triage and crisis intervention to persons in need.
• Assesses needs and provides resources that are linked with treatment to persons in need.
• Assesses referrals to determine appropriateness for services within the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network system of care.
• Provides case management services including providing linkage to services, monitoring, follow-up, and crisis management for consumers.
• Provides information, education, liaison, and transition services to various networks within the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network.
• Provides information regarding federal, state, and community-based agencies and resources.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
A Master’s Degree from a recognized college or university in the Human Services, the Social Services, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
• Three (3) years of professional experience providing clinical/behavioral health support for children, youth, and families in a behavioral healthcare or mental health setting.
REQUIRED LICENSE(S).
A Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure: LMSW, LMHC, LPC, LLP or PhD.
A limited license will be accepted.
A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is usually performed in an office setting but requires the employee to drive to different sites throughout Wayne County and the State of Michigan. This position can work remotely with supervisory approval. Currently this position is primarily a hybrid position.
