POSITION OVERVIEW

A hospital-based behavioral health unit is seeking two locum psychiatrists to join their adult inpatient team. The unit provides comprehensive psychiatric care for adults across a 30-bed general adult behavioral health unit, with shared responsibilities between inpatient and occasional outpatient coverage.

This role is ideal for psychiatrists who thrive in a team-based, inpatient environment and can manage a moderate patient load with high professional autonomy. The hospital emphasizes safety and security, with 24/7 security personnel and mandatory staff participation in emergency codes.

Patient Population: Adults; children may be seen only on weekend crisis call and are evaluated and transferred to an adolescent facility if admitted.


SCHEDULE & CALL STRUCTURE

- Standard Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

- Weekend Requirements: 1:4 rotation

- Call Requirements: 1:4 rotation


Unit Structure:

- 30 beds split between 2 providers (15 patients per provider)

- Inpatient team: 3 regular physicians + 2 locum positions

- Outpatient team at full staffing: 5 physicians + 1 APP



SCOPE OF PRACTICE / RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide adult psychiatric care on the inpatient unit

- Participate in multidisciplinary team rounds

- Prescribe and manage medications as appropriate

- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and crisis management

- Transfer pediatric patients to appropriate facilities when needed

- Maintain compliance with hospital safety protocols and emergency codes

- Credentialing Timeline: As soon as possible



CREDENTIALING & REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory:

. Board Certified in Psychiatry

. ACLS Certification

. New York Medical License at the time of submission

. Clean background check

. Full-time availability at the time of submission

. Self-Query NPDB report, pulled within the same month as submission
