Survey respondents represent OBGYNs who practice on a locum tenens basis as well as those with permanent salaries. Compensation results consist of only full-time, permanent employees and consider only annual salary and bonuses.

The average OBGYN’s salary has experienced some fluctuation in the past five years. After a sharp rise in 2019, the pandemic resulted in lower pay rates and workloads. In 2022, the average OBGYN’s salary has remained in a holding pattern. Our research shows that Women’s Medicine is a specialty with one of the lowest rates of job satisfaction (60%), underscoring an urgent need in this critical area of healthcare.

Regional distribution of OBGYNs around the country is relatively even. More than half (55%) of OBGYNs are of the baby boomer generation (born between 1946 and 1964), with a steep drop off in subsequent generations. Congruously, the majority (65%) of OBGYNs in the US have been in their practice for 21 or more years.
