On January 21st, 2021, the Department of Health and Human Services extended the public health emergency declaration until April 21st, 2021, due to the continued toll of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it is set to expire on April 21st, it will likely be extended through the rest of the year.

Under a public health emergency declaration, legislation related to telemedicine and telehealth has been loosened. Many states realized the value of telemedicine services during the pandemic and are working toward enacting permanent legislative changes that make telehealth more accessible for patients and clinicians. Check back for updates and visit the Federation of State Medical Boards website for current information by state.

Compare the reimbursement policies for telemedicine services within each state, as well as the laws surrounding prescriptions and cross-state licensure. Please consult your specific state board's website for more detailed information.
